Cuando el físico Jim Beale inventa una máquina que puede doblar el espacio-tiempo, una rara dalia aparece desde el futuro. Ahora debe encontrar la coincidencia idéntica de la flor en el presente para demostrar que su máquina funciona. Jim pronto descubre que la dalia se encuentra en manos de una misteriosa mujer, que lo seduce para que revele sus secretos. Convencido de que ha caído presa de una mujer fatal que trata de robar su invento, Jim viaja en el tiempo para detener su traición antes de que suceda. Pero una vez en el pasado, Jim descubre una sorprendente verdad acerca de la máquina, la joven, y su propia realidad.
