Estados Unidos, años 50. Elizabeth Leroy, una joven de profundas convicciones religiosas, se enamora del reverendo de su ciudad. Se comprometen justo antes de que él se aliste en el ejército para dar apoyo moral a las tropas norteamericanas en Corea.
