George Randolph Scott (Condado de Orange, 23 de enero de 1898 - Beverly Hills, 2 de marzo de 1987) fue un actor estadounidense conocido principalmente por sus papeles en westerns. Scott llegó a Hollywood en la época del cine mudo, inicialmente como figurante. Gracias a su amistad con Howard Hughes y su educación como ingeniero textil en la Universidad de Carolina del Norte, comenzó a destacar. Fue contratado por Paramount tras su participación en *El virginiano* y protagonizó comedias románticas, dramas, aventuras y westerns, incluyendo la versión de *El último mohicano* (1936) de George B. Seitz y varias colaboraciones con el director Henry Hathaway. En 1939 tuvo papeles relevantes como sheriff en *Tierra de audaces* de Henry King y como Wyatt Earp en *Frontier Marshal* de Allan Dwan. Durante esa década, cultivó una estrecha amistad con Cary Grant, con quien compartió vivienda y protagonizó *Mi mujer favorita* junto a Irene Dunne, lo que generó especulaciones sobre su relación. Estas fueron desmentidas tanto por su hijo adoptivo, Christopher, como por el director Budd Boetticher. En los años 1940, su carrera se consolidó, especializándose en westerns como *Senda siniestra* de George Marshall, *Belle Starr* de Irving Cummings y *Espíritu de conquista* de Fritz Lang. También destacó en *El capitán Kidd*, un clásico del cine de piratas. Durante los años 1950, alcanzó su cúspide con westerns auténticos y de bajo presupuesto producidos por su propia compañía, en colaboración con Budd Boetticher y Burt Kennedy, como *Los cautivos* (1957). Su última película fue *Duelo en la Alta Sierra* (1962), dirigida por Sam Peckinpah, tras la cual se retiró del cine para gestionar sus inversiones. Randolph Scott falleció el 2 de marzo de 1987 en Beverly Hills, a los 89 años, y fue enterrado en el cementerio de Elmwood, Charlotte, Carolina del Norte.
