Prolífico actor de carácter estadounidense que desempeña papeles principalmente de villano. Hijo de padres alemanes, el gerente de una tienda de piensos de Cincinnati, August Wilke, y su esposa Rose, Robert Joseph Wilke creció en Cincinnati. Trabajó como salvavidas en un hotel de Miami, Florida, donde hizo contactos en el negocio del cine. Pudo conseguir trabajo como especialista y continuó como tal hasta mediados de los años 40, cuando comenzó a conseguir papeles reales en series y westerns de bajo presupuesto. Una aparición destacada como uno de los matones en Le train sifflera trois fois (1952) le llevó a trabajar en películas de mayor calidad. Trabajó extensamente tanto en televisión como en cine, y se convirtió en un rostro enormemente familiar, aunque bastante anónimo para el público en general. Su rostro curtido lo convertía en un perfecto chico malo del oeste, pero ocasionalmente también desempeñaba papeles comprensivos, como en Les moissons du ciel (1978). Un golfista experto, su amigo Claude Akins dijo que había ganado más dinero en el campo de golf que en las películas. Murió en 1989. -
