Glenn Ford fue un actor canadiense de cine, ganador del premio Globo de Oro al mejor actor-Comedia o musical por Un gánster para un milagro (1961). Recordado por su actuación en la película Gilda (1946) junto a Rita Hayworth y en otros clásicos del cine estadounidense. Hijo de un ejecutivo ferroviario canadiense, su familia se trasladó cuando él contaba con ocho años de edad a California. Con 19 años debuta como actor de teatro. Rueda su primera película con la 20th Century Fox, pero luego firma contrato con la Columbia, en donde rodará unas cincuenta películas en 18 años. Sus primeros papeles fueron en westerns de bajo presupuesto. Alcanzó la celebridad por su intervención en Gilda de Charles Vidor, en particular por la famosa escena en que abofetea a Rita Hayworth. Sin embargo los intentos sucesivos de repetir el éxito con esta pareja de actores fueron sonados fracasos comerciales, como Los amores de Carmen. Sus mejores papeles fueron bajo las órdenes del director de origen austríaco Fritz Lang en Los sobornados y Deseos humanos. En 1959 pasa a formar parte de la plantilla de la Metro, en donde conseguirá buenos papeles junto al director Vincente Minnelli en Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis y El noviazgo del padre de Eddie. Glenn Ford se caracterizó por hacer personajes honestos que sufrían bajo el abuso y que resurgían bajo la determinación y voluntad extrema. También hizo papeles discretos de galán. Ford nunca llegó a obtener un premio Oscar, obtuvo un Globo de Oro y en la década de 1960, su estrella declinó lentamente. Siempre se le consideró un actor subvalorado por el medio, pero la gran gama de personajes que interpretó, lo encasilló como uno de los mitos de Hollywood, con un fiel grupo de fanes y una fiel teleaudiencia. En 1978 formó parte del elenco de la película Superman, haciendo el papel de Jonathan Kent, padre adoptivo de Clark.
