Roger Ebert fue un crítico de cine, periodista y guionista ganador del premio Pulitzer. Descrito por la revista Forbes como "el experto más poderoso de Estados Unidos", Ebert fue el primer crítico de cine en recibir una estrella en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood, así como un premio Pulitzer. Ebert comenzó su carrera crítica en 1967 como crítico para el Chicago Sun-Times y más tarde obtuvo reconocimiento nacional copresentando varios programas con Gene Siskel en los que acuñaron el estilo de crítica "pulgar arriba-pulgar abajo". Tras la muerte de Siskel en 1999, Ebert continuó presentando "And The Movies" con Richard Roeper hasta 2006, cuando dejó de aparecer debido a que desarrolló cáncer de tiroides.
