Les Muppets vivent tous dans une grande maison, ce qui n'est pas sans bousculade le matin. Gonzo a des états d'âme et souvent le même rêve nocturne. Il ne connaît personne qui lui ressemble puisque qu'il « n'y en a qu'un des comme lui », et même son vieil ami Rizzo le rat ne parvient plus à le faire sourire. Quand il découvre de mystérieux messages extra-terrestres, Gonzo entrevoit le début d'une réponse. Il va tenter de communiquer avec les auteurs de ces messages. Mais c'est compter sans le machiavélique K. Edgar Singer, patron de l'agence gouvernementale, qui veut l'utiliser afin de capturer des extra-terrestres.
