Arnaud Desplechin retrouve son alter-ego Paul Dédalus, héros de son œuvre autobiographique amorcée en 1996 avec Comment je me suis disputé…ma vie sexuelle et poursuivi des années plus tard avec Trois souvenirs de ma jeunesse. Il revient cette fois-ci à l’enfance de son personnage, et racontera la manière dont il s’est initié au cinéma : d’abord comme spectateur, puis cinéphile, et enfin réalisateur.
