Taylor Thompson, jeune maman d’une petite fille de 9 mois, arrondit ses fins de mois en vendant ses ovocytes à un centre de fertilité. Malheureusement, après la perte dramatique de son bébé, elle assassine son compagnon et passe dix ans derrière les barreaux. À sa sortie de prison, elle est bien décidée à retrouver le couple qui a bénéficié de son don d’ovules et ce, à n’importe quel prix. Usurpation d’identité, mensonges, séduction: elle a tout prévu pour tenter de récupérer sa fille biologique. Caleb et Mélissa Nelson, les parents de la petite fille aujourd’hui âgée de 10 ans, vont voir leur quotidien bouleversé par l’arrivée dans leur vie d’une étrange nounou providentielle.
