Le général est mort à l'aube (1936)
Douze seigneurs de la guerre, commandés par le terrible général Yang, terrorisent les provinces du nord de la Chine. A terme, ils pourraient étendre leur domination au pays tout entier. O'Hara, un aventurier américain, se rend à Shanghai, porteur d'une grosse somme d'argent : elle doit permettre d'acheter les armes qui aideront les autorités à défendre les paysans contre les armées de Yang. De son côté, le général engage Peter Perrie, américain également, afin qu'il lui amène O'Hara pieds et poings liés. O'Hara va se retrouver totalement impliqué dans le conflit.
