Abigail, 9 ans, mène une vie tranquille entre le foyer de son père et celui de sa mère, divorcés. Mais un jour, Abigail ne rentre pas de l'école. Le passé de son père, Richard, et l'étrange personnalité de sa soeur ont de quoi éveiller les soupçons. Mais bientôt, Ellie, sa mère, avoue un terrible secret : Abigail n'est pas leur fille.
