Pour ne pas briser son image de médecin, le docteur Watson, fin limier, a inventé un détective mythique, Sherlock Holmes, à qui il attribue ses propres talents. Sa création devient si célèbre qu'il est obligé de lui donner vie. Il demande à Reginald Kincaid, petit acteur de tragédie, d'incarner son personnage. Las ! Kincaid se révèle être un alcoolique, un joueur et un grand amateur de dames...
