Anya, une journaliste très investie dans son travail, déménage avec sa fille, Mia, pour intégrer un nouveau journal. A peine installée, elle croise le chemin d'un homme qui la confond avec sa propre femme. Ce dernier lui propose de la rencontrer. Mais lorsque le regard des deux femmes se croisent, elles se rendent compte qu'elles sont identiques et comprennent immédiatement qu'elles sont liées d'une manière ou d'une autre. Anya décider de fouiller dans le passé afin de découvrir la vérité sur leur histoire, mais aussi pour en faire un article. Elle l'ignore encore, mais elle s'apprête à découvrir de lourds secrets qui pourraient bien mettre sa famille en danger.
