Un astéroïde géant s'écrase sur la lune et y creuse une immense faille. Ce phénomène va provoquer sur Terre de grands changements climatiques. De grandes villes sont rayées de la planète. Les chercheurs de l'Agence spatiale américaine mettent alors tout en œuvre pour tenter de trouver une solution. Parmi ces scientifiques il y a Lana Gale, la fille d'un grand astrophysicien qui avait, plusieurs années auparavant, prédit ces tragiques événements.
