Quand Alice retrouve son petit ami Arthur à New York, elle ne s'attend pas à voir débarquer Antoine, avec qui elle vient d'avoir une brève aventure à Paris. Fou amoureux, il est bien décidé à reconquérir Alice. Pour détourner les soupçons d'Arthur, la jeune femme improvise un mensonge : elle a rencontré ce garçon dans l'avion, il s'appelle John, il est amoureux d'une certaine Marie qui habite à New York. Contre toute attente, Arthur invite le jeune homme à loger chez eux, le temps qu'il retrouve sa fiancée disparue...
