Kex, un jeune orphelin de 12 ans, s'est engagé sur un bateau en espérant découvrir le monde lorsqu'une tempête le fait s'échouer. 26, un adorable petit dinosaure, lui vient en aide et très vite, ils deviennent amis. Peu après, les deux nouveaux amis vont devoir faire face au terrible Oghtar qui a mis la main sur la Pierre Solaire ; cette dernière possède des pouvoirs maléfiques et Oghtar menace de détruire la tranquillité de Dinotopia.
