Eaux dormantes (1944)
En pleine Seconde Guerre mondiale, le bateau où s'est embarquée la famille Calvin est coulé. Seule en réchappe la fille, Leslie. Très durement touchée psychologiquement, elle accepte d'aller chez la sœur de sa mère, qui possède avec son mari une plantation près d'un bayou, en Louisiane. Si elle y est chaleureusement accueillie par le médecin local, elle commence en revanche à se poser des questions sur son état mental : elle entend des voix l'appeler, voit d'étranges lumières... Sombre-t-elle dans la folie, ou bien...
