À la suite de son divorce, Holly revient dans sa ville natale avec sa fille, Amanda. Elle y rencontre Carl, un veuf qui élève seul ses deux garçons. Nouveau venu dans la région, il séduit Holly et l'épouse. Quelques semaines après la cérémonie, Holly se demande pourquoi Carl interdit à ses fils de parler de leur mère.
