Institutrice dans un petit village isolé au nord du Canada, Kate Carter doit rentrer chez elle pour se marier. La veille de son départ, l'aéroport étant paralysé par la neige, Kate prend la route en scooter des neiges avec Redford, un solitaire un peu bourru. Pourtant dangereux, entre les conditions climatiques et des animaux sauvages, ce voyage lui fait alors découvrir une vraie passion pour l'aventure et bouscule les certitudes de la jeune femme...
