Le roi David (1985)
Vers 1030 avant Jésus-Christ. Saül, placé à la tête du peuple d'Israël par le prophète Samuel, se fait proclamer roi. Il suscite le courroux divin en tuant les Amalécites. Samuel, subordonné à la volonté divine, désavoue le mauvais roi et donne l'onction à David, le nouvel élu de Yahvé, un simple berger, fils de Jessé. Fasciné par le jeune homme, Saül le convie à sa cour. David se fait remarquer dans la lutte contre les Philistins en terrassant le géant Goliath avec sa fronde. Jaloux, Saül le met bientôt en disgrâce. Grâce à l'amitié de Jonathan, le fils de Saül, David parvient à s'enfuir dans le désert. Il demande asile aux Philistins. L'apprenant, Saül, ivre de rage, leur déclare la guerre...
