Aux funérailles de son ami Harry, Ira Wells, un détective privé grincheux approchant la retraite est sollicité par une excentrique qui veut retrouver son chat enlevé. Il s'associe avec elle dans le but d'attraper les malfrats qui ont tué son partenaire.
