En 1991, Diana, princesse de Galles, a participé à une série d'entretiens secrets pour un livre sur sa vie. Le film s'en sert pour révéler les pensées de Diana sur un aspect spécifique de sa vie, montrant sa version de l'histoire avec ses propres mots. La plupart de ces enregistrements n'ont jamais été diffusés et passent la vie sentimentale de Diana au microscope sous un jour nouveau.
