Carter Harrison est l'un des plus brillants espoirs d'une société pétrolière. Mais il a eu le malheur d'épouser une jeune Italienne qui lui en a fait voir de toutes les couleurs, si bien qu'ils sont séparés. Or, pour lui accorder un important poste de direction, sa société exige qu'il puisse donner en Angleterre l'image d'un couple modèle.
