Madame Parkington (1944)
Une vieille femme aisée qui doit encore s'occuper, malgré son grand âge, de gérer les problèmes causés par les différents membres de sa famille. Le livre est construit sur un système d'alternance entre les situations auxquelles elle doit faire face aujourd'hui (que ce soit régler les problèmes financiers de son gendre ou rencontrer le nouveau mari de sa fille) et la réminiscence des souvenirs de son passé, notamment sa première rencontre avec M. Parkington, un personnage haut en couleur qui la sort de son milieu pour lui faire goûter la « grande vie »
