Le mur du son (1952)
John Ridgefield est un riche magnat du pétrole qui, en tant que propriétaire d'une usine de construction aéronautique, conçoit également des avions. Tony Garthwaite, pilote d'essai, ancien pilote de chasse pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, est employé par Ridgefield après son mariage avec Susan, la fille de ce dernier. Les tensions entre le magnat et sa fille, présentes depuis la mort du frère de Susan lors d'un vol effectué sous l'impulsion de son père, sont accentuées lorsque Garthwaite effectue des essais de vol dangereux dans un nouveau prototype qui doit franchir le Mur du son.
