Le détective Danny Rourke est dévasté par la disparition de sa fille. Amené à reprendre du service, on le charge d'enquêter sur une série de braquages invraisemblables perpétués par un mystérieux individu. Persuadé que cet homme détient la clé pour retrouver sa fille, Rourke demande de l’aide à Diana Cruz, une puissante médium étrangement liée à l’affaire, qui vient remettre en question toutes les certitudes de la réalité du monde qui l’entoure. Il découvre ainsi que le contrôle n'est qu'illusion.
