A Severed Head (1971)
Antonia, l'épouse choyée de Martin Lynch-Gibbon, un négociant en vins de grande classe, dit à son mari qu'elle était amoureuse de leur meilleur ami, le psychiatre Palmer Anderson. Palmer et Antonia veulent gérer la situation de manière civilisée en restant amis avec Martin. Pendant ce temps, Martin tente de garder secrète sa maîtresse, Georgie Hands, mais la sœur de Palmer, Honor Klein, qui a enseigné à Georgie à Oxford, en parle à Palmer et à Antonia. De plus, Honor présente Georgie au frère de Martin, Alexander. Ce n'est que le début des différentes liaisons.
