Dans un futur proche, au sein de la colonie de robots humanoïdes de la zone 414, un détective privé, David Carmichael, est embauché par Marlon Veidt afin de retrouver sa fille rebelle. L'enquêteur doit faire équipe avec une intelligence artificielle femelle. Ensemble, ils parcourent la zone 414 et la " Cité des Robots " et découvrent un crime qui pourrait remettre en question les origines de ces lieux.
