Suivant la tradition bambara, un jeune homme s'apprete a recevoir le savoir destine a lui assurer la maitrise des forces qui l'entourent. Cependant le pere du jeune Nianankoro voit d'un mauvais oeil son fils devenir son egal aussi sa mere eloigne le jeune homme. Au cour de ce voyage initiatique, Nianankoro va apprendre a tester ses forces et ses pouvoirs qu'il devra inevitablement confronter a ceux de son pere. Prix du jury, Cannes 1987.
