En cinq documentaires de cinquante-deux minutes, la collection Contre-Histoire de la France outre-mer raconte la colonisation des territoires ultramarins d’une manière inédite, à travers le regard de ceux qui l’ont subie. Descendants de colons ou d’esclaves, historiens, amiraux galonnés, écrivains en révolte et hommes politiques retracent un passé qui ne passe pas et qui continue d’enflammer les rapports économiques et sociaux d’outre-mer. Réalisée à partir d’entretiens, d’images contemporaines et d’archives, cette série décrypte la mécanique de la colonisation à partir des grands leviers utilisés par l’empire français : L’esclavage (La Loi du plus fort) ; l’éducation (Nos ancêtres les Gaulois) ; la religion (Les Positions des missionnaires) Pour la première fois et sans s’inscrire à rebours dans les mémoires collectives, Contre-Histoire de la France outre-mer offre un éclairage historique transversal qui s’appuie sur l’ensemble des territoires concernés par la colonisation.
