Danielle Guenot, 32 ans, divorcée avec deux enfants, est enseignante dans un lycée de Rouen. Elle connait avec ses élèves l'exaltation de mai 1968. Avec l'un d'eux, Gérard, 17 ans, elle noue une relation amoureuse et profonde. Les parents du jeune homme, qui affichent pourtant des idées libérales, accusent Danielle de détournement de mineur. La justice se met en branle, Danielle est emprisonnée, Gérard envoyé en maison psychiatrique...
