Lorsqu’elle prend sa retraite, une mère quitte son pavillon d’une paisible bourgade en Forêt-Noire, rompant avec ses souvenirs d’une vie de famille idéale. Elle prend l’avion pour Hong-Kong, alors secouée par les manifestations pro-démocratie. Elle sait que son fils y vit, mais c’est en solitaire qu’elle va suivre un véritable chemin initiatique.
