Amélia vit à Atlanta. C’est une jeune femme qui répond à des appels d’urgence et se charge d’envoyer les secours vers les victimes qui lui téléphonent. Passionnée par son métier, elle prend ses appels un peu trop à cœur et ne peut s’empêcher d’aller voir si les victimes vont bien une fois qu’ils ont raccroché. Elle garde toujours un petit souvenir de la victime, qu’elle lui dérobe, et cache chez elle dans un placard...
