L'Orchidée noire (1959)
Veuve d'un gangster notoire, Rose Bianco tente de refaire sa vie comme elle le peut. Son jeune fils, âgé de 12 ans, fait mine de suivre la voie de son père. Déjà interpellé plusieurs fois, il est placé en maison de correction d'où il parvient à s'échapper de manière répétée. Rose déprime. Ses seuls espoirs, elle les place en la personne d'un voisin, veuf lui aussi, Frank Valente, qui se montre patient et attentif avec elle. Les deux locataires se voient souvent et sympathisent. Mais Rose espère et redoute tout à la fois l'idylle qui s'annonce. De son côté, Frank doit faire face à l'opposition de sa propre fille…
