À tombeau ouvert (1999)
New York, début des années 90… Chaque nuit, Frank Pierce sillonne au volant de son ambulance les rues de Hell’s Kitchen, le secteur le plus dur et le plus insalubre de Manhattan, où il a passé toute son enfance. Aidé par ses coéquipiers, il porte secours à des délaissés que personne n’ose plus approcher. C’est lors de l’une de ces descentes en enfer qu’il rencontre Mary Burke, la fille d’un mourant qu’il a tenté de sauver. Entre l’hôpital et le rue, au milieu des blessés et des suicidaires, entre l’exaltation de sauver une vie et le drame d ‘en perdre, Frank cherche à être en paix avec lui-même. Mais qu’y a-t-il donc au bout de ce tunnel ?
