Après une épreuve douloureuse, Gia s’installe dans une petite ville et rencontre les familles avoisinantes, dont une qui a une enfant handicapée. Chargée par la ville de la construction d’une aire de jeux, Gia se bat pour obtenir un espace inclusif ainsi qu’une salle de gym pour les pompiers. Parmi eux, Jim va soutenir cette passionnée de barbecue comme lui…
