Lionel Barrymore (né Lionel Herbert Blythe ; 28 avril 1878 – 15 novembre 1954) était un acteur américain de théâtre, de cinéma et de radio, ainsi qu'un réalisateur. Il remporta l'Oscar du meilleur acteur pour sa performance dans « A Free Soul » (1931) et reste surtout connu du public moderne pour son rôle du méchant M. Potter dans le film de Frank Capra « La vie est belle » (1946). On se souvient également de lui pour son interprétation d'Ebenezer Scrooge dans les adaptations annuelles du « Conte de Noël » durant les deux dernières décennies de sa vie. Il est aussi célèbre pour avoir incarné le Dr Leonard Gillespie dans les neuf films de la série « Dr Kildare » produits par la MGM, un rôle qu'il reprit dans six autres films centrés sur Gillespie et dans une série radiophonique intitulée « The Story of Dr. Kildare ». Il était membre de la famille Barrymore, une famille d'acteurs de théâtre.
