Laura Carreira, née à Porto en 1994, a réalisé, en 2019, son premier court métrage, Red Hill, lauréat du New Visions Award au Festival d'Édimbourg et nommé aux BAFTA Awards. Le second, The Shift (2020), a été présenté en avant-première dans la section Orizzonti du Festival de Venise, et a remporté le New Talent Award à IndieLisboa. On Falling est son premier long métrage.
