Marilyn Monroe est une actrice, mannequin et chanteuse américaine, née le 1er juin 1926 à Los Angeles et morte le 4 août 1962 dans la même ville. Elle reste après sa mort, une icône de la culture populaire. Elle se destine initialement au mannequinat avant d'être repérée par Ben Lyon et de signer son premier contrat d'actrice avec la 20th Century Fox en août 1946. Au début des années 1950, elle accède au statut de star hollywoodienne et de sex-symbol. Ses grands succès au cinéma sont notamment Les hommes préfèrent les blondes (1953), Sept Ans de réflexion (1955) ou encore Certains l'aiment chaud (1959), pour lequel elle reçoit le Golden Globe de la meilleure actrice dans une comédie en 1960. En dépit de sa grande notoriété, sa carrière la laisse insatisfaite et sa vie privée est instable, parsemée d'incertitudes. Elle connaîtra notamment des mariages ratés avec la star du baseball Joe DiMaggio et avec l'écrivain Arthur Miller. Son rôle a depuis été joué par d'importantes comédiennes des générations suivantes: Isabelle Adjani, Emmanuelle Seigner, Maggie Civantos, Michelle Williams, Ana de Armas, Kelli Garner. Les arrière-arrière grands-parents de Marilyn Monroe sont George Willis Hogan, né en 1823 dans le Kentucky (fils de Zachariah Hogan et Delilah Marksberry), et Sarah Ann Owen, née en 1823 en Virginie (fille d'Edward Owen). Ils se marient le 11 mars 1843. Ils ont un fils, Tilford Marion Hogan, et une fille, Mary Ann (1844-1930). Les arrière-grands-parents de Marilyn s'appellent Tilford Marion Hogan (1851-1933) et Charlotte Virginia (Jennie) Nance (1857-?). Ils se marient en 1870 et vivent dans le Missouri. Ils ont quatre enfants dont Della, deuxième née. Les trois autres enfants sont Dora, Myrtle et William Marion. Della (1876-1927, fille de Tilford et Jennie) épouse en 1899 un peintre en bâtiment de dix ans plus âgé qu'elle, Otis Elmer Monroe. Ils partent pour le Mexique travailler dans une société de chemins de fer où on lui avait promis un bon salaire, puis revient en Californie en 1903, pour un meilleur emploi à la Pacific Electric Railway. En 1902 alors qu'ils sont encore au Mexique, Gladys (mère de Marilyn) voit le jour. En 1905, un autre enfant vient agrandir la famille, Marion (1905-?). Entre 1903 et 1909, la famille déménage une douzaine de fois, menant une vie précaire et instable. À partir de 1907, la santé d'Otis se dégrade. Hospitalisé en 1908, il meurt en 1909 d'une syphilis neurologique (paralysie générale progressive), contractée à cause des déplorables conditions d’hygiène qu'il avait connues au Mexique où la maladie sévissait de façon épidémique. Il est enterré à Whittier. Della se remarie deux fois, puis divorce. Elle souffre de soucis de santé. Marion son fils se marie avec une camarade d'école. Della meurt le 23 août 1927 d'un arrêt cardiaque. La mère de Marilyn, Gladys Pearl Baker Mortensen Monroe (27 mai 1902 - 11 mars 19845) née au Mexique de parents américains, travaille comme monteuse dans le laboratoire cinématographique Consolidated Film Industries. ...
