Né le 4 août 1944 à Bridgeport, Connecticut, et décédé le 19 février 2023, Richard Belzer était un acteur, humoriste et écrivain américain. Connu pour son humour mordant, il débute comme stand-up comedian avant de se tourner vers la télévision. Il incarne le détective John Munch dans New York, unité spéciale (1999-2016), un rôle qu’il reprend dans Homicide (1993-1999) et d’autres séries, faisant de Munch un personnage culte. Belzer apparaît aussi dans des films comme Scarface (1983) et Fame (1980). Auteur de livres sur les théories du complot, il mêle esprit caustique et engagement. Sa performance dans New York, unité spéciale lui vaut une nomination aux People’s Choice Awards.
