Joanna Lumley est une actrice et productrice britannique, née le 1er mai 1946 à Srinagar (Inde). Joanna Lamond Lumley est née le 1er mai 1946 à Srinagar, au Jammu-et-Cachemire, de parents anglais le major James Rutherford Lumley, qui a servi dans le 6e Gurkha Rifles , un régiment de l'Armée indienne britannique et Thyra Beatrice Rose (née Weir). Ils se sont mariés en 1941. Le colonel Leslie Weir qui rencontra le 13e dalaï-lama est son grand-père. Essentiellement célèbre pour sa carrière télévisuelle faite de nombreux téléfilms et séries, Joanna Lumley s’est particulièrement illustrée dans les séries Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir dans les années 1970 dans le rôle de Purdey et Absolutely Fabulous dans les années 1990-2000 où elle jouait la déjantée Patsy Stone. Grâce à ce rôle, elle remporta deux BAFTA TV Awards. Elle fut également au générique de la saga L'Amour en héritage en 1984. Au cinéma, outre un court rôle dans le James Bond Au service secret de sa majesté en 1969, ses plus notables apparitions sur grand écran incluent À la recherche de la Panthère rose en 1982, Les Péchés mortels en 1995, Prince Vaillant en 1997, Maybe Baby ou Comment les Anglais se reproduisent en 2000, Les Noces funèbres en 2005 où elle prête sa voix à l'un des personnages de ce film d'animation, Trois fois 20 ans en 2011, Le Loup de Wall Street en 2013, Broadway Therapy en 2014, (Me Before You) ainsi que Absolutely Fabulous, le film en 2016. En 2017, elle est à l'affiche Paddington 2 et de la comédie Finding Your Feet. En 2021, elle participe à une nouvelle adaptation du roman Le Portrait de Dorian Gray. Joanna Lumley est membre de l'Ordre de l'Empire britannique ainsi que de la Royal Geographical Society. La comédienne est également connue pour ses engagements en faveurs d'oeuvres caricatives.
