Cornel Wilde était un acteur et réalisateur hongro-américain. Sa carrière d'acteur débuta en 1935, année de ses débuts à Broadway. En 1936, il fit ses premières apparitions non créditées au cinéma. Dans les années 1940, il signa un contrat avec la 20th Century Fox et, au milieu de cette décennie, il devint une vedette. Il fut nommé à l'Oscar du meilleur acteur pour sa performance dans « A Song to Remember » (1945). Dans les années 1950, il se tourna vers l'écriture, la production et la réalisation, tout en poursuivant sa carrière d'acteur.
