Marilyn Pauline Novak, dite Kim Novak, née le 13 février 1933 à Chicago, dans l'Illinois, est une actrice américaine. D'abord mannequin, elle est engagée par le studio Columbia Pictures qui souhaite faire d'elle la rivale de Marilyn Monroe. Le film Picnic (1955) lui permet d'accéder au rang de vedette internationale. Elle rencontre de nombreux succès et devient, en 1957, grâce à notamment L'Homme au bras d'or et La Blonde ou la Rousse, l'actrice numéro un au box-office. En 1958, elle tient le rôle principal dans Sueurs froides (Vertigo d'Alfred Hitchcock avec James Stewart comme partenaire). Dirigée par les plus grands réalisateurs, notamment Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger et Billy Wilder, Novak s'éloigne progressivement du cinéma à partir des années 1960, lasse d'être considérée par la critique moins comme une actrice que comme un sex-symbol. Elle met un terme à sa carrière en 1991, à l'âge de 58 ans, après une expérience difficile sur le tournage du film Traumatismes. Elle se consacre alors à la peinture et élève, aux côtés de son mari vétérinaire, chevaux et lamas dans son ranch de l'Oregon.
