Né le 30 juin 1959 à Brooklyn, New York, Vincent D'Onofrio est un acteur américain d'origine italienne, formé à l'Actors Studio et à l'American Stanislavski Theatre. Il fait ses débuts à Broadway au début des années 1980 avant de s'imposer au cinéma. C'est Stanley Kubrick qui lui offre la révélation : dans Full Metal Jacket (1987), il incarne la recrue Engagé Baleine, prenant plus de trente kilos pour le rôle. Une performance remarquée par les critiques, qui lui ouvre les portes de collaborations avec Oliver Stone (JFK, 1991), Spike Lee (Malcolm X, 1992) et Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black, 1997). À la télévision, il marque une décennie entière en incarnant l'inspecteur Robert Goren dans New York, Section Criminelle (2001-2011), série pour laquelle il reçoit notamment une nomination aux Emmy Awards. Depuis 2015, il s'est imposé dans l'univers Marvel en incarnant le redoutable Wilson Fisk, alias le Caïd, dans Daredevil, puis dans Hawkeye (2021) et Daredevil : Born Again (2025). Il est également réalisateur, notamment du film The Kid (2019).
