Elle est particulièrement connue pour ses rôles dans les séries télévisées Madame est servie, New York, unité spéciale, Ugly Betty et Transparent. Au cours de sa carrière, son travail d'interprète lui vaut d'être récompensée de deux Daytime Emmy Awards, deux Tony Awards et d'être nommée aux Primetime Emmy Awards ainsi qu'aux Golden Globe Awards.
