Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez (né le 3 août 1940), connu professionnellement sous le nom de Martin Sheen, est un acteur américain. Il s'est fait connaître grâce à ses rôles dans les films « The Subject Was Roses » (1968) et « Badlands » (1973), puis a acquis une renommée internationale grâce à son interprétation du capitaine Benjamin Willard dans « Apocalypse Now » (1979), du président des États-Unis Josiah Bartlet dans la série télévisée « À la Maison-Blanche » (1999-2006) et de Robert Hanson dans la série Netflix « Grace et Frankie » (2015-2022). Au cinéma, Sheen a remporté le prix du meilleur acteur au Festival international du film de San Sebastián pour son interprétation de Kit Carruthers dans « Badlands ». Son rôle du capitaine Willard dans « Apocalypse Now » lui a valu une nomination au BAFTA du meilleur acteur. Martin Sheen a collaboré avec de nombreux réalisateurs, parmi lesquels Richard Attenborough, Francis Ford Coppola, Terrence Malick, David Cronenberg, Mike Nichols, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg et Oliver Stone. Il a reçu son étoile sur le Hollywood Walk of Fame en 1989. À la télévision, il a remporté un Golden Globe et deux Screen Actors Guild Awards pour son interprétation du président Josiah Bartlet dans la série À la Maison-Blanche (The West Wing), ainsi qu'un Emmy Award pour sa participation à la sitcom Murphy Brown. En 2012, il a incarné l'oncle Ben dans The Amazing Spider-Man, réalisé par Marc Webb. Né et élevé aux États-Unis d'un père espagnol et d'une mère irlandaise, il a adopté le nom de scène Martin Sheen pour faciliter sa carrière d'acteur. Il est père de quatre enfants, tous acteurs. Martin Sheen a réalisé un film, Cadence (1990), dans lequel il joue aux côtés de ses fils Charlie et Ramón. Il a été narrateur, producteur et réalisateur de documentaires télévisés, remportant deux Daytime Emmy Awards dans les années 1980, et a été actif en politique libérale.
