Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore, connu sous le nom de Mahershala Ali, est un acteur américain né le 16 février 1974 à Oakland (Californie). Formé à Saint Mary’s College puis à la Tisch School of the Arts (NYU), il débute à la télévision au début des années 2000 (Crossing Jordan, Threat Matrix) et se révèle dans The 4400 (2004-2007). Au cinéma, il apparaît dans The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), puis enchaîne les rôles marquants dans The Place Beyond the Pines, Hidden Figures et la saga The Hunger Games. Il remporte deux Oscars du meilleur second rôle pour Moonlight (2016) et Green Book (2018). À la télévision, on le retrouve dans House of Cards, Luke Cage et True Detective (saison 3). Il continue d’alterner projets cinéma et séries, se distinguant par des personnages denses et nuancés.
