Allan Dwan, d'origine canadienne, débute aux États-Unis avec son premier long métrage Richelieu en 1914. Il réalise des films muets marquants avec Fairbanks et Swanson, puis s’adapte au cinéma sonore, tournant avec Shirley Temple, Barbara Stanwyck. Il termine sa carrière en 1961.
