Tra Elizabeth, bella mercante d'arte, e John, agente di borsa, esplode una passione travolgente, senza limiti né misure che rischia di metterne in pericolo la salute mentale. Non può durare più di 9 settimane e ½. Girato a ritmo frenetico, immagini ricercate e patinate secondo i canoni della pubblicità postmoderna, colonna sonora accattivante: un interminabile spot pubblicitario che tenta di vendere il prodotto “sesso”. Lo spogliarello della Basinger si svolge sulle note della canzone di Joe Cocker “You Can Leave Your Hat On”: è diventato un culto. Da un romanzo di Elizabeth McNeill, scritto da due donne (Patricia Knop, Sarah Kernochan) e da uno dei tanti produttori (Zalman King).
