Quattro giovani coppie della media borghesia americana sono vicine di casa e s'incontrano spesso. Solo una di esse è abbastanza stabile. Le altre hanno i loro guai: un marito beve e mette le corna alla moglie, un altro violenta la consorte del vicino. Morirà tragicamente.
